ABOUT ME

Jaila Johnson showed an affinity to scientific knowledge at a very young age. She earned an academic scholarship to study at Vanderbilt University, where she earned a B.A. in Molecular and Cellular Biology. She went on to obtain her Masters in Medical Sciences from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. Jaila continually expands and fortifies her biology background in the laboratory and in the classroom.

In addition to her academic interests, Jaila has shown a devotion to social issues, particularly the intersectionality of race and gender identities. Her undergraduate campus involvement included serving as president of an organization called STRANDS, which used haircare as an avenue to address the holistic health of Vanderbilt’s Black female population. In the same vein, Jaila seeks to contribute to the representation and empowerment of women of color in the beauty sphere. She leverages her social media influence to speak to the issues of diversity, equity and inclusion within the beauty industry.

As a St. Petersburg native, Jaila returned home to contribute to the educational success of her local community, while still impacting the larger community via her online presence.
